Monthly Meal Ministry
June thru August 2013
This summer we have bowed to the season (hot and humid) and have been serving healthy sandwiches and sides for each meal. Every Pulled Pork BBQ, Ham Salad and Turkey Salad and Hamburger/Hot Dog has been enjoyed by one and all as well as the delicious seasonal side dishes and desserts. We even served a cold sauerkraut salad that surprised many by how sweet and delicious it was!
I want to give a special thanks to Kenny Robinson for tirelessly making his Mom’s cooked dressing for the potato salad served in July (one batch after another, after another); and to our other Friday prep volunteers Roseanne and Scott Hutton whose help has made this summer a breeze to make each and every special meal for our guests.
We have served about 557 meals during this summer season, even though we had to deal with a car show right in front of Zion’s Alger Center for the August meal, which kept many of our regular guests from being able to get to Zion. That’s okay, we drove everyone crazy smelling the hamburgers and hot dogs we were grilling outside!
I would also like to remind everyone that on Saturday, November 23rd we’ll be serving a down home country Harvest Dinner that includes homemade apple, cherry and pumpkin pie, real mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade biscuits, and dressing, and of course turkey, country style sauerkraut and green beans. This is the only fundraiser we have each year for the Monthly Meal Ministry and I hope each and every one comes and enjoys a wonderful meal and supports this ministry of Zion.
To those that show up to help prep, cook, set up, package the delivered meals, deliver the meals, serve and cleanup, we wish to offer our heartfelt thanks.
