The Cell Phone Recycling Program is a program that recycles old cell phones for use by our troops stationed away from home. Philip Steptoe wrote to the coordinators of the Cell Phones for Soldiers Program and asked for information on how he could help collect cell phones. He’s asking the families and friends of Zion to help make a difference for our troops by donating your old/inactive cell phones. Phones can be in any condition or provided by any carrier. A red, white, and blue drop box is located in the narthex of the church until August 17th.Please help Philip fill this box with old cell phones that are no longer in use.Let’s make a difference in the lives of the 289,000 U.S. soldiers serving our country overseas. If you need additional information please visit the following website: www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com.
Greetings from the dungeon.During August, I will be making the final payment ($4,750.00) for the oil for the past winter. We will begin anew in September when our monthly budget with the oil company is $4,550.00 per month.
Some good news to report. After I handed out (and mailed) the quarterly statements to all pledgers, several people caught up on their pledges. This allowed us to make July a “breakeven” month.I hope more will do the same in August.
During August we will begin the budget process for 2009.The committee of some vestry persons and myself will be working for several months with the “number crunching” to try and present a balanced budget for next year. This will be difficult due to the increased energy costs.Keep this committee and Zion in your prayers as we go through this process.
We have T-shirts with the Episcopal Church Shield on them.I have ended up selling over a half dozen to other Episcopalians who thought it was a “cool” shirt. We now have a supply of short sleeve T-shirts on hand.
Also, a reminder, if each household in the Parish spends only $100.00 a month on gift cards from the local grocery stores, Zion would net approximately $18,000.00 a year.Being a single individual who lives alone, I average more than that each month. We can make a lot more money from the sales of these cards, if everyone utilized this program.Cards are available after each service on Sundays and in the Parish Office.
As always, if you have any questions concerning your pledge, giving or the finances of the Parish, please feel free to contact me in the Parish office (725-5312) on Mondays.
Hello everyone and I hope you are having a good summer back in WV! I have now completed my first year of Seminary, which makes me a Middler at Virginia Theological Seminary. I have enjoyed being there with other people going into ordained ministry, and I have learned so much about the Church. continue reading » »
What would explain Richard Seckinger having his head shaved? Is it a means of keeping cool in the dog days of summer? Could it be a matter of bowing to the onslaught baldness? Neither. In a grand act of compassion for his friend, Tracey, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, Richard had his head shaved. The new look that you now behold is a sign of friendship and solidarityand a belief that no matter what happens, we are all beautiful. Well done, good and faithful friend.
The ministry of the Altar Guild is performed with dedication and love. Often this ministry is forgotten because of the dedication of its members. It is just assumed that no new members are needed. This is not the case. Our Guild especially needs help in setting up for the 11:00 a.m. service and cleaning up for the same service. If you are interested in becoming a member or being an occasional helper, please contact Beverly Raines or Linda Work at the parish office (725-5312).
