Dear Zion family, It is with great sadness that I need to inform you of the death of Helen Burch.
Her funeral will be held at Zion this Saturday, January 14th at 11 am
Helen L. Burch, 98, of Tuscawilla Hills, Charles Town, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility, Kearneysville.
Born Oct. 17, 1918, in Windber, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George Balog and Mary Ann (Stefanick) Balog.
Mrs. Burch had been employed with the U.S. government during World War II, as a secretary. She retired from the C.P. Telephone Company after 10 years as a secretary.
She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, where she served on the Alter Guild.
Helen was a member of the Old Opera House Auxiliary; the Sleepy Hollow Golf Club; past president of the Tuscawilla Garden Club; volunteer with Meals on Wheels; and a member of the Charles Town bowling league. She had a passion for bird watching and gardening.
She served in the U.S. Navy in 1942.
She is survived by one son, Gregory M. Burch, of Charles Town; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49-1/2 years, Hilary Mitchell “Mitch” Burch, who died June 29, 1993; sisters, Pauline Gantner, Anne Fetchko, Mary Blazosky and Margaret Balog; and brother, Paul Chinchar.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Zion Episcopal Church, 301 E. Congress St., Charles Town, with the Rev. Frank Coe officiating. Interment will be at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
